What does Surfing Lessons, a High Ropes Course, York’s Wild Kingdom, the Olympics and tons of locally donated free food all have in common?
They were all a part of Connections for Kids first Day Treatment Summer School Session with the Kittery School District!
This summer, the Connections for Kids Kittery Office sponsored their first Day Treatment summer school collaboration with the Kittery School District. Serving fifteen students in all grade levels, student spent four hours a day, Monday through Thursday with their Connections for Kids Behavioral Health Professional in the school, working on academics, and then spent two hours each afternoon out in the community with their staff, engaging in individual and group programming. For this time, our clinical department developed a long list of activities geared to address treatment oriented goals though activities, processing, counseling and social engagement.
Lastly, every Friday, the students and staff participated in a day long experiential activity out in the community. These activities included Surfing Lessons with Liquid Dream in York, a High Ropes Course experience with Take Flight in Kittery, a trip to York’s Wild Kingdom and a district wide summer Olympic Games. All of these activities were deeply discounted by these sponsors. Lastly, food and lunches were donated to student and staff by a long list of local businesses and agencies. Through all of this local support, every student had a free lunch, every day.
